Occupational First Aid

Students who are deemed competent will receive a Statement of Attainment recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework. This certification is nationally recognised. The Statement is issued by Pinnacle Safety and Training (RTO 40496).

National units of competency

• HLTAID011 Provide first aid
• HLTAID014 Provide advanced first aid
• HLTAID015 Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy
• HLTAID016 Manage first aid services and resources

During this training, participants will also meet the requirements to obtain the following units of competency:

• HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
• HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support

Assessment for this course is conducted through a combination of theoretical and practical activities to ensure participants demonstrate competency in both standard and advanced first aid response. The assessment begins with foundational first aid skills, where participants are required to perform CPR, use an AED, manage bleeding, fractures, burns, and conduct both primary and secondary surveys. Participants must also demonstrate effective communication of incident details and accurate documentation of patient care.

Following the successful completion of basic first aid tasks, participants will be assessed on more advanced skills. This includes the safe and effective administration of oxygen therapy, the application of advanced airway management techniques, and the use of tourniquets and haemostatic dressings for life-threatening bleeding. Participants will also be required to monitor and record vital signs, including blood pressure and oxygen saturation, and manage complex injuries such as eye, head, spinal, and abdominal trauma.

The final stage of assessment involves responding to complex and remote emergency scenarios. Participants will undertake simulated multi-casualty incidents requiring triage and prioritisation, provide extended patient care in remote environments where medical help may be delayed, manage psychological emergencies and occupational illnesses, and coordinate first aid responses in confined spaces or hazardous work areas. All assessments are completed in a simulated workplace environment to ensure skills are applied in realistic and practical contexts.

Age requirements

Participants must be at least 15 years of age. Participants under the age of 18 must have consent from a parent or legal guardian to enrol and participate in this course. Consent will be obtained during the enrolment process, and a signed consent form must be submitted prior to the start of training. Refer to our FAQ for more information.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills (LLN)

Participants are required to have at least a Year 10 level of numeracy, literacy and communication skills and be able to read and write in English.

Pinnacle Safety and Training supplies all required learning materials and safety equipment for this course.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Pinnacle Safety and Training does not offer Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for this course. Due to the duration and cost of this short course, RPL assessment would have limited value to participants.

Credit Transfer

Pinnacle Safety and Training offers Credit Transfers for this training product. A Credit Transfer is granted where the previously attained unit of competency has been achieved. After enrolment, participants are eligible to submit a Credit Transfer application.

It is important to note that while the unit/s of competency are eligible for Credit Transfer, you may be required to resit the training and assessment to meet industry or legislative requirements.

All training and assessment requirements are completed within the course duration. Participants are not required to undertake any additional study or assessment outside of the scheduled course time.

Reaccreditation

The Occupational First Aid certification remains current for three years, although the Australian Resuscitation Council recommends refreshing Advanced Resuscitation skills annually.
