FACE TO FACE DELIVERY OVERVIEW

This Health and Safety Representative (HSR) refresher course is designed to renew and reinforce the knowledge and skills gained during the initial five-day HSR training. It provides HSRs with updated information on current work health and safety (WHS) legislation and best practices to support them in effectively fulfilling their role. 

The course revisits key topics such as the WHS legislative framework, the roles and responsibilities of duty holders, and essential WHS terminology. Participants will also review the role of WorkSafe Queensland and the penalties for non-compliance, as well as the requirements for workplace consultation and the functions of Health and Safety Committees (HSCs). Practical components include strategies for resolving WHS issues, identifying and managing hazards, understanding incident notification and investigation procedures, and exercising HSR powers such as issuing Provisional Improvement Notices (PINs) and directing unsafe work to cease.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Participants will receive a WorkSafe Queensland Health and Safety Representative Refresher Training Statement of Attendance. This Statement is issued by Pinnacle Safety and Training (RTO 40496).

ASSESSMENT INFORMATION

Although there is no formal assessment for this course, participants are expected to actively participate in activities.

PREREQUISITES & ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Evidence of attending the initial 5-day course

Participants must provide evidence of having successfully completed either:

  • A WorkSafe Queensland approved five day initial Health and Safety Representative (HSR) training course in accordance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 within 12 months from election; or
  • A WorkSafe Queensland approved one day refresher Health and Safety Representative (HSR) training course in accordance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 at least 12 monthly and within 28 days of re-election.

Age requirements

Participants must be at least 18 years of age. Due to course restrictions, enrolments will not be accepted from individuals under 18 years of age, even with parental or guardian consent. Refer to our FAQ for more information.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills (LLN)

Participants are required to have at least a Year 10 level of numeracy, literacy and communication skills and be able to read and write in English.

Evidence of Identification

Participants must provide three (3) evidence of identity (EOI) documents on the morning of day 1 of training. Click here to view the types of documents you can provide.

RESOURCES

Pinnacle Safety and Training supplies all required learning materials and safety equipment for this course.

COURSE WORKLOAD

All training and assessment requirements are completed within the course duration. Participants are not required to undertake any additional study or assessment outside of the scheduled course time.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

HSRs in Queensland are entitled to attend one day refresher courses every year, commencing yearly after the initial five day course has been completed (as per Section 21 of the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 (QLD)).
