Diploma of Work Health and Safety

Students who are deemed competent will be awarded the nationally recognised BSB51319 Diploma of Work Health and Safety qualification and a record of results, which is nationally recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework. The Qualification is issued by Pinnacle Safety and Training (RTO 40496).

Assessment for the BSB51319 Diploma of Work Health and Safety (WHS) is designed to evaluate participants' understanding and practical application of advanced WHS principles across various topics.

Participants will complete a combination of knowledge assessments, practical activities, and workplace-based projects. This includes leading WHS risk management processes, investigating and responding to WHS incidents, and contributing to the development, implementation, and maintenance of WHS management systems. Participants will also be assessed on their ability to design and use risk management tools, manage consultation and participation processes, and facilitate continuous improvement initiatives. 

The course covers the management of WHS information systems, the implementation of emergency procedures, and the promotion of work-related psychological health and safety. Additionally, participants will demonstrate their skills in coordinating rehabilitation and return-to-work programs.

Note: One assessment task requires a volunteer to assist in a role-played workplace scenario.

Enrolment Period
You have up to 12 months to complete the course, giving you ample time to work through the material and complete assessments at your own pace. If additional time is needed, we offer an option to extend your enrolment period, allowing you to finish the course at your convenience.

Prerequisite/s 

Participants must hold all BSB41419 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety core units or equivalent competencies:

• BSBWHS412 Assist with workplace compliance with WHS laws
• BSBWHS413 Contribute to implementation and maintenance of WHS consultation and participation processes
• BSBWHS414 Contribute to WHS risk management
• BSBWHS415 Contribute to implementing WHS management systems
• BSBWHS416 Contribute to workplace incident response

The above prerequisites must be uploaded to your online learning platform. Access to the full course curriculum and assessment tasks will not be granted until the prerequisites are provided. Once you have submitted your prerequisites we will conduct the verification process and release access to your course within one business day of the documents being submitted. 

Age requirements 

Participants must be at least 18 years of age. Due to course restrictions, enrolments will not be accepted from individuals under 18 years of age, even with parental or guardian consent. Refer to our FAQ for more information. 

Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital skills (LLND) 

Participants are required to have at least a Year 12 level of numeracy, literacy and communication skills and be able to read and write in English. This course requires a strong level of computer literacy to navigate the online learning system and complete required activities.

To complete this course, participants require:

• Internet browser (Chrome recommended)
• Reliable internet connection
• Speakers or headphones
• Microphone and webcam
• PDF reader
• Office Suite applications (Microsoft Office recommended)

Recognition of Prior Learning

Credit Transfer 

Pinnacle Safety and Training offers Credit Transfers for this training product. A Credit Transfer is granted where the previously attained unit of competency has been achieved. After enrolment, participants are eligible to submit a Credit Transfer application. 

It is important to note that while units of competency are eligible for Credit Transfer, this may not reduce the workload required. This is due to the course being delivered in a modular format, with learning and assessment activities clustered or integrated across multiple units.

The BSB51319 Diploma in Work Health and Safety is a comprehensive qualification that requires a significant commitment of time and effort. The course provides a 12-month enrolment period to complete self-paced study, practical assessments, and workplace-based tasks.

For the online self-paced delivery, participants are expected to complete independent study and assessment tasks at their own pace.
