Advanced First Aid

Students who are deemed competent will receive a Statement of Attainment recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework. This certification is nationally recognised. The Statement is issued by Pinnacle Safety and Training (RTO 40496).

National units of competency

• HLTAID014 Provide Advanced First Aid

The assessment for this Advanced First Aid course includes a combination of theory and practical components. Participants will complete a written assessment to demonstrate their understanding of first aid principles and procedures. In addition, participants will be required to demonstrate practical first aid skills, including casualty assessment, CPR, injury management, and emergency response techniques, ensuring they can apply their knowledge effectively in real-world situations.

This course is designed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge to effectively respond to emergencies in the workplace. Participants will learn to assess casualties and manage incidents, including hazard identification, CPR (including bag valve mask), basic triage, and coordination of first aid response. The course also covers communicating with emergency services, incident reporting, debriefing, and responding to a range of injuries including burns, fractures, bleeding, shock, and cardiac arrest

Pre-requisites

Participants must have completed HLTAID011 Provide First Aid with Pinnacle Safety and Training within the last 12 months to be eligible to attend this course.

Age requirements

Participants must be at least 15 years of age. Participants under the age of 18 must have consent from a parent or legal guardian to enrol and participate in this course. Consent will be obtained during the enrolment process, and a signed consent form must be submitted prior to the start of training. Refer to our FAQ for more information.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills (LLN)

Participants must have at least a Year 10 level of numeracy, literacy and communication skills and be able to read and write in English.

Pinnacle Safety and Training supplies all required learning materials and safety equipment for this course.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Pinnacle Safety and Training does not offer Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for this course. Due to the duration and cost of this short course, RPL assessment would have limited value to participants.

Credit Transfer

Pinnacle Safety and Training offers Credit Transfers for this training product.  A Credit Transfer is granted where the previously attained unit of competency has been achieved. After enrolment, participants are eligible to submit a Credit Transfer application.

It is important to note that while the unit/s of competency are eligible for Credit Transfer, you may be required to resit the training and assessment to meet industry or legislative requirements.

All training and assessment requirements are completed within the course duration. Participants are not required to undertake any additional study or assessment outside of the scheduled course time.

Both courses provide essential first aid training, but HLTAID014 – Provide Advanced First Aid offers a more in-depth approach. While HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid focuses on fundamental first aid skills such as CPR, wound care, and managing common injuries, HLTAID014 builds on these basics and includes incident management, leadership in emergencies, coordination of other first aiders, and the use of advanced first aid equipment.

This makes it more suitable for workplaces with a higher risk of injury.

The highest levels of first aid training in Australia typically include HLTAID014 – Provide Advanced First Aid and HLTAID015 – Provide Advanced Resuscitation and Oxygen Therapy. These courses offer comprehensive training in managing complex medical emergencies, using advanced equipment, and providing extended care in high-risk environments.

Both courses offer comprehensive first aid training, but they are designed for different workplace needs and responsibilities. If you are unsure which one to choose, the key difference comes down to the level of responsibility, workplace risk, and additional skills required.
