Certificate III in Emergency Response and Rescue (RII30719)

Upon successful completion, graduates receive a RII30719 Certificate III in Emergency Response and Rescue issued by Pinnacle Safety and Training (RTO 40496), recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework. 

The training comprises of the following courses that make up the three week training block:

Week 1:

Moudule 1- Mining Induction - Standard 11 Complaint (2 days)

• RIIWHS201D - Work safely and follow WHS policies and procedures
• RIIERR205D - Apply initial response first aid
• RIIGOV201E - Comply with site work processes/procedures
• RIIRIS201E - Conduct local risk control
• RIICOM201D - Communicate in the workplace
• RIIERR302E - Respond to local emergencies and incidents

Module 2 - Operate Breathing Apparatus (1day)

• MSMWHS216 - Operate breathing apparatus
• PUAFIR207 - Operate breathing apparatus open circuit
• PUAFIR210 - Prevent injury

Module 3 - Confined Space Rescue (2 days)

• PUASAR025 - Undertake confined space rescue
• PUASAR022 - Participate in a rescue operation

Module 3 Prerequisites:

• Participants must have successfully completed our Confined Space Entry (1 Day) course or hold equivalent competencies.
• Participants must also hold PUAFIR207 Operate breathing apparatus open circuit OR MSAWHS216 Operate breathing apparatus (can be gained in Module 2).

Week 2:

Module 4 - Hazmat Response (2 days)

Module 4 Prerequisites:

Module 5 - Road Crash Rescue (3 days)

• PUASAR024 - Undertake road crash rescue
• PUASAR022 - Participate in a rescue operation

Module 5 Prerequisites:

• Provide first aid (HLTAID011) (can be gained by completing either our Provide First Aid course).

Week 3:

Module 6 -  Vertical Rescue (4 days)

• PUASAR022 - Participate in a rescue operation

Module 7 - Emergency Response Planning  (1 day)

• RIIRIS301E - Apply risk management process

Module 7 Prerequisites:

• Advanced First Aid (Prerequisite to Pinnacle’s Certificate III Emergency Response and Rescue program)
• Operate Breathing Apparatus(Module 2)
• Confined Space Rescue(Module 3)
• HAZMAT Response (Module 4)

Assessment for this course includes both theoretical and practical components designed to ensure participants can safely and effectively perform emergency response and rescue activities across a range of high risk environments. 

The theory assessment evaluates knowledge of relevant legislation, Australian Standards, workplace procedures, risk management principles, hazardous materials, confined spaces, breathing apparatus, rescue equipment, emergency response planning, casualty management and safe work practices. Participants will also be assessed on their understanding of mining safety requirements, emergency communication systems, hazardous substance classifications, exposure risks and the interpretation of safety information such as Safety Data Sheets (SDS), HAZCHEM codes and emergency action guides. 

The practical assessment requires participants to demonstrate competency across a variety of realistic emergency response and rescue scenarios. This includes the inspection, testing, operation and maintenance of self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), conducting risk assessments and implementing control measures, responding to simulated fire, chemical spill, first aid emergencies and participating in hazardous materials (HAZMAT) incident response activities. 

Participants will also be assessed on their ability to perform confined space rescue, road crash rescue and vertical rescue operations. Practical activities include scene assessment and management, vehicle stabilisation and extrication techniques, casualty management, rope access and rescue systems, abseiling, ascending, rigging, pick off rescues, stretcher based rescues and the safe use of rescue equipment. Throughout all scenarios, participants must demonstrate effective teamwork, communication, emergency response planning and adherence to safe work procedures.

Prerequisites

Participants must hold the following units of competency: 

• HLTAID011 -Provide first aid 
  • Can be gained by completing our Provide First Aid course
• HLTAID014 Provide Advanced First Aid 
  • Can be gained by completing our Advanced First Aid course 
• 1 Day Confined Space Entry course, or hold equivalent competencies 
  • This prerequisite relates to Module 3 - Confined Space Rescue 

If you do not provide the above prerequisites the business day prior to your course commencement, your enrolment will be cancelled, and you will not be permitted entry to the course. If this occurs, our terms and conditions will apply and therefore your course fee will not be refunded nor held in credit.

Age requirements
Participants must be at least 18 years of age. Due to course restrictions, enrolments will not be accepted from individuals under 18 years of age, even with parental or guardian consent. Refer to our FAQ for more information. 

Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills (LLN) 
Participants are required to have at least a Year 10 level of numeracy, literacy and communication skills and be able to read and write in English. 

Fitness requirements 
This course involves realistic, physically demanding rescue scenarios. Participants must have the necessary fitness, strength, and prior experience to safely operate at height. Participants will be required to ascend ropes, work while suspended in a harness, and perform rescues on towers and other vertical structures. Those who do not have the necessary strength and fitness to climb and manoeuvre independently will be unable to meet the competency requirements of this program. 

Facial hair 
Participants must be clean-shaven. The unit of competency states that students use equipment according to the manufacturer’s specifications. The manufacturer’s specifications for breathing apparatus state: “The sealing line between head and facepiece must be free of hair and foreign substances which could cause leakages”. Furthermore, AS 1715 requires users to be clean-shaven.

Pinnacle Safety and Training supplies all required learning materials and safety equipment for this course.

Recognition of Prior Learning 
Pinnacle Safety and Training does not offer Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for this course. Due to the duration and cost of this short course, RPL assessment would have limited value to participants. 

Credit Transfer 
Pinnacle Safety and Training offers Credit Transfers for this training product. A Credit Transfer is granted where the previously attained unit of competency has been achieved. After enrolment, participants are eligible to submit a Credit Transfer application. It is important to note that while the unit/s of competency are eligible for Credit Transfer, you may be required to resit the training and assessment to meet industry or legislative requirements.

All training and assessment requirements are completed within the course duration. Participants are not required to undertake any additional study or assessment outside of the scheduled course time.
