Health and Safety Representative (HSR) Training

Participants will receive a WorkSafe Approved HSR Initial OHS Training Course Certificate of Attendance. This statement is issued by Pinnacle Safety and Training (RTO 40496).

Although there is no formal assessment allocated to this course, participants are expected to actively participate in activities and attend each day for the duration of the course.

This course is offered in an intensive and extended delivery format. When choosing the format that’s right for you, it’s essential to consider your learning style, work commitments, and availability.

The intensive option is ideal for those who prefer to immerse themselves and complete training quickly, while the weekly format suits participants who need time between sessions to absorb content or balance other responsibilities. Consider which approach best supports your ability to stay focused, retain information, and manage your workload.

Age requirements

Participants must be at least 18 years of age. Due to course restrictions, enrolments will not be accepted from individuals under 18 years of age, even with parental or guardian consent. Refer to our FAQ for more information.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills (LLN) 

Participants are required to have at least a Year 10 level of numeracy, literacy and communication skills and be able to read and write in English.

Pinnacle Safety and Training supplies all required learning materials and safety equipment for this course.

All training and assessment requirements are completed within the course duration. Participants are not required to undertake any additional study or assessment outside of the scheduled course time.

The role of the Health and Safety Representative (HSR) is primarily to liaise with other staff to identify health and safety issues and convey these to management. HSRs are elected by fellow staff to represent the views of the staff group.

Under the OHS Act 2004 (section 67), all elected HSRs and Deputy HSRs are entitled to attend WorkSafe Victoria-approved OHS training for HSRs and choose their training provider in consultation with their employer. Pinnacle Safety and Training is approved by WorkSafe to deliver the HSR Initial OHS Training Course.

Under Section 67 of the Victorian OHS Act, if requested, an employer must allow an elected HSR and elected Deputy HSR to attend a WorkSafe-approved HSR Initial OHS Training course on paid time, pay the course cost and any other associated costs. Section 67 also allows HSRs to choose the approved training course they attend in consultation with their employer.
