Forklift Training

Students who are deemed competent in the unit of competency will receive a Statement of Attainment recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework. This certification is nationally recognised. The Statement is issued by Pinnacle Safety and Training (RTO 40496).

National units of competency

• TLILIC0003 Licence to operate a forklift truck

Students who successfully complete the Worksafe National Assessment Instrument (NAI) will be eligible to apply for a High Risk Work Licence (HRWL-LF) through Safework NSW.
 

Assessment for this course includes the required assessment to attain both the unit of competency and the mandatory assessment required to apply for HRWL-LF.  

Participants must obtain the required unit of competency before undertaking the National Assessment Instrument (NAI), which eligible participants will undertake on the final day of the course.

Pre-Course Study and Assessment
Participants are required to undertake mandatory pre-course study and complete an online assessment prior to attending the face-to-face course.

National Unit of Competency Assessment
Theoretical knowledge will be assessed through a series of quizzes where participants demonstrate their understanding of relevant legislation, safety procedures, risk control measures, and operating requirements for forklifts.

Participants will then undertake a practical assessment involving direct observation of their ability to safely plan, operate, and shut down the forklift in accordance with regulatory and workplace standards.

National Assessment Instrument (NAI) Assessment
The NAI is a nationally recognised assessment tool developed by Safe Work Australia. It covers both theoretical and practical components of forklift operations. This assessment must be completed in English as the mandated assessment conditions do not allow an interpreter to be used during the formal assessment.

This assessment consists of three key components: a theory assessment to evaluate knowledge of safe operating procedures and legislative requirements, a series of calculations to assess load handling and stability, and a practical observation where participants must demonstrate their ability to safely operate a forklift in accordance with workplace and regulatory standards.

Successful completion of all assessment components is required to demonstrate competency and proceed with the HRWL application process.

Free NAI Re-Testing
Participants who are unsuccessful in their first attempt at the NAI assessment may book a second attempt free of charge. Pinnacle encourages these participants to review the course materials independently and return to re-sit the assessment within 60 days. Any additional re-assessment attempts beyond this will incur a fee.
 

This course is suitable for both beginners and experienced personnel.

Pre-Course Study and Assessment
Participants are required to undertake mandatory pre-course study and complete an online assessment prior to attending the face-to-face course.

Age requirements
Participants must be at least 18 years of age. This age requirement is set by Safe Work Australia and enforced by state and territory regulators, and cannot be bypassed, even with parental or guardian consent. Refer to our FAQ for more information.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills (LLN)
Participants must have at least a Year 10 level of numeracy, literacy and communication skills and be able to read and write in English. If English is your second language, you must advise us at the time of booking. Contact our Sales and Service Team on 1300 990 810 to determine your eligibility to undertake this training. We will assist you in any way we can, but due to the demands of the regulated assessment process, we cannot guarantee that every applicant will possess the level of LLN required for the assessment.

Evidence of Identification
Participants are required to provide a photo ID that confirms your identity and age. This could be a passport, an Australian driver’s license or 18+ photo card. Due to regulatory requirements, participants who attend without this ID will be unable to participate in the course.

Assessment Enrolment Number (AEN)
Participants are required to apply for an Assessment Enrolment Number with Safework NSW prior to attending the course. You cannot be issued a High-Risk Work Licence without it.

Participants must bring their Assessment Enrolment Number and an identity document (e.g. driver's licence, NSW photo card, or their current HRW licence) on the date of their HRW assessment. If you are unable to obtain your AEN, contact SafeWork NSW for assistance on 13 10 50.

Additional Enrolment Process for HRWL Accredited Assessors
SafeWork NSW requires that current HRWL Accredited Assessors obtain prior approval before attending this training course. If you are a HRWL Accredited Assessor and wish to enrol as a student, please contact us on 1300 990 810 before booking.
 

Pinnacle Safety and Training supplies all required learning materials and safety equipment for this course.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Pinnacle Safety and Training does not offer Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for this course. Due to the duration and cost of this short course, RPL assessment would have limited value to participants.

Credit Transfer
Pinnacle Safety and Training offers Credit Transfers for this training product.  A Credit Transfer is granted where the previously attained unit of competency has been achieved. After enrolment, participants are eligible to submit a Credit Transfer application.

It is important to note that while the unit/s of competency are eligible for Credit Transfer, you may be required to resit the training and assessment to meet industry or legislative requirements.

This course requires participants to complete the theoretical learning and assessment before attending the face-to-face component, which takes approximately three hours. Throughout the course, participants may also be required to undertake study tasks and assessment preparation activities to support their success in the NAI Assessment. Participants need to ensure that they allow sufficient time in a quiet, focused study environment to engage with the content and complete all required assessment tasks.

A: Our program is suitable for both experienced and inexperienced operators.

A: Our QLD Forklift course is made up of one day of training and one day of assessment. Participants will be required to successfully complete a series of WHSQ mandated assessment items. On day two you will undergo written knowledge and calculations assessment and (if eligible) you will undergo a practical skills assessment. All assessments will be “closed book” and conducted by a WHSQ Accredited Assessor (who is independent of Pinnacle Safety and Training). This mandated assessment is required to be administered by all RTOs offering this High Risk training.

A: *Not everyone passes the first go – don’t be embarrassed if this happens. Even knowledgeable people may struggle to answer the technically specific exam, as the answers need to be provided precisely in accordance with WHSQ standards. If this occurs, you may study the material in your own time, and return within 60 days to re-sit the assessment, at no charge. Note: additional re-assessments are subject to fees.

A: No. The course fee you paid relates to the formal training you have already received. If you choose not to proceed with this for any reason, no refund or partial-refund will be provided. This is in accordance with our standard Terms and Conditions you accept upon enrolment.

A: Yes. Recent changes now allow interstate residents to apply for a Queensland HRW licence as long as their training and assessment is completed in Queensland by a Queensland-based RTO and accredited assessor.

A: If you are applying for your HRWL in Queensland you will be required to apply online. Before you submit your HRWL application you are required to present three (3) original forms of identification to your Pinnacle Safety Training Assessor on day 1 of your course. If you do not provide the identification requirements you can not participate in the formal assessment.

A: Before you progress to your formal assessment, your Pinnacle Safety and Training Assessor must:

• Provide three (3) matching original evidence of identity documents (see this link and read the “What types of evidence do I need to provide?” section above for details). Please note that arriving without this ID will result in you being turned away from the course.
• NOTE: if you are not a resident of Australia please contact us, prior to booking, to clarify what documents you will require.One of the category A documents must contain a full name, date of birth and be photographic (where the photo is of the person undertaking assessment).
