Safely Access the Rail Corridor

Students who are deemed competent will receive a Statement of Attainment recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework. This certification is nationally recognised. The Statement is issued by Pinnacle Safety and Training (RTO 40496).

Assessment for this course includes a series of theory quizzes to confirm participants’ understanding of key safety concepts, procedures, and regulations related to working in the rail corridor.

Participants will complete interactive practical scenarios set in a simulated rail corridor environment. These activities are designed to assess the application of knowledge in identifying hazards, recognising the danger zone, maintaining safe distances, and responding to emergencies in accordance with safe working procedures.

This accredited Safely Access the Rail Corridor course is designed for individuals who work or are intending to work in the rail transport and logistics industry and are required to obtain a Rail Industry (RIW) Card. When planning your proposed training, you should speak to your employer about their requirements.

What is the RIW Card?

The Rail Industry Worker (RIW) Card is issued to rail workers who hold a nominated list of competencies, which vary based on the rail network operator. This course (Safely Access the Rail Corridor) is a mandatory requirement for workers wishing to obtain a RIW Card for several rail network providers. We always recommend that when planning your proposed training, you speak to your proposed employer about their current training requirements.

Age requirements

Participants must be at least 15 years of age. Participants under the age of 18 must have consent from a parent or legal guardian to enrol and participate in this course. Consent will be obtained during the enrolment process, and a signed consent form must be submitted prior to the start of training. Refer to our FAQ for more information.

Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital skills (LLND)

Participants are required to have at least a Year 10 level of numeracy, literacy and communication skills and be able to read and write in English. This course requires a basic level of computer literacy to navigate the online learning system and complete required activities

Recognition of Prior Learning

Pinnacle Safety and Training does not offer Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for this course. Due to the duration and cost of this short course, RPL assessment would have limited value to participants.

Credit Transfer

Pinnacle Safety and Training offers Credit Transfers for this training product.  A Credit Transfer is granted where the previously attained unit of competency has been achieved. After enrolment, participants are eligible to submit a Credit Transfer application.

This course is delivered online and is entirely self-paced, allowing you to complete the content in your own time and at your convenience, within the 3-month enrolment period. This course will take approximately 2 hours to complete.
