Our online Privacy Principles course provides an introduction to privacy law in Australia, focusing on the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). Developed using information from the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC), the course is designed to equip participants with the knowledge to understand, implement, and manage privacy practices within their organisation.
Participants will explore the key concepts of the Privacy Act, including the difference between personal and sensitive information, the role of consent, and an overview of the 13 APPs. The course also covers practical strategies for handling personal and sensitive information, such as collection, use, disclosure, secure storage, and proper disposal. Additionally, it outlines the privacy responsibilities of individuals, organisations, and government agencies, including implementing governance frameworks, recognising data breaches, and responding appropriately under the Notifiable Data Breaches (NDB) scheme.
