Mining Induction - Standard 11 Compliant

Students who are deemed competent will receive a Statement of Attainment recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework. This certification is nationally recognised. The Statement is issued by Pinnacle Safety and Training (RTO 40496).

Assessment for this course includes both theory and practical components to ensure participants can apply their knowledge in real-world mining scenarios. The theory assessment evaluates understanding of key legislative requirements, safety procedures, and industry terminology.

Practical assessment tasks include a wide range of activities, including the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and effectively using site communication mechanisms, such as radios and other communication equipment. Participants will be assessed on safe manual handling techniques, conducting a risk assessment, and implementing appropriate control measures. In addition, they will be required to respond to simulated emergency scenarios, including fire, chemical spills, and first aid situations.

This nationally accredited Mining Induction (Standard 11 Compliant) course is designed for individuals seeking to work on coal mine sites in Queensland. It is ideal for new entrants to the mining industry, as well as contractors and support personnel involved in site-based roles.

The course provides foundational training in key areas such as hazard identification, risk assessment, workplace health and safety, emergency response, and safe work practices. Completing this course is a mandatory requirement for most Queensland coal mine sites and equips participants with the essential knowledge and skills to work safely and compliantly in mining environments.

Age requirements

Participants must be at least 16 years of age. Participants under the age of 18 must have consent from a parent or legal guardian to enrol and participate in this course. Consent will be obtained during the enrolment process, and a signed consent form must be submitted prior to the start of training. Refer to our FAQ for more information.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills (LLN)

Participants are required to have at least a Year 10 level of numeracy, literacy and communication skills and be able to read and write in English.

Photo ID card requirements

To be issued a Mining Induction photo ID card, participants must submit a suitable photo of themselves prior to the course commencing. To ensure your photo meets the required standards, please follow these guidelines:

• Take a passport-style photo showing your head and shoulders
• Stand against a plain white background
• Remove hats, sunglasses, and lanyards
• Face the camera directly with a neutral expression

Providing a compliant photo is essential to avoid delays in processing your ID card.

Pinnacle Safety and Training supplies all required learning materials and safety equipment for this course.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Pinnacle Safety and Training does not offer Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for this course. Due to the duration and cost of this short course, RPL assessment would have limited value to participants.

Credit Transfer

Pinnacle Safety and Training offers Credit Transfers for this training product. A Credit Transfer is granted where the previously attained unit of competency has been achieved. After enrolment, participants are eligible to submit a Credit Transfer application.

It is important to note that while the unit of competency is eligible for Credit Transfer, the participant will receive a Statement of Attainment without the specific “Mining Induction” course name listed. This is due to the course being delivered in a contextualised format with specific methodologies, and course completion through attendance is required to achieve the intended learning outcomes.

All training and assessment requirements are completed within the course duration. Participants will be required to complete a short preparation task in their own time between Day 1 and Day 2. This independent study should take approximately 15 to 20 minutes. Participants need to ensure that they allow sufficient time in a quiet, focused study environment to engage with the content and complete all required tasks.

Course Validity and Refreshers

The refresher period for the Mining Induction course is five years. This means individuals can refresh their induction at the discretion of mining companies, within a five-year period.
