Working at Heights Supervisor (2 Day)

Students who are deemed competent will receive a Statement of Attainment recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework. This certification is nationally recognised. The Statement is issued by Pinnacle Safety and Training (RTO 40496).

Assessment for this course includes both theoretical and practical components to ensure participants are competent in all aspects of confined space entry.

The online theory assessment confirms understanding of key concepts,working safely at height and conducting height rescues. This includes understanding relevant legislation, risk management processes, equipment selection and use, the responsibilities of personnel working at height as well as the legal and organisational requirements for rescue planning.

The practical assessment takes place in a simulated training environment and requires participants to demonstrate setting up and using height safety equipment correctly (such as ladders, anchorage systems, and fall protection devices) as well as identifying appropriate rescue equipment, outlining rescue techniques, and engaging in the planning and rehearsal of rescue scenarios.

This course is for experienced work at heights workers and those supervising work at heights activities or needing to develop rescue plans.

Age requirements 

Participants must be at least 18 years of age. Due to course restrictions, enrolments will not be accepted from individuals under 18 years of age, even with parental or guardian consent. Refer to our FAQ for more information.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills (LLN)

Participants are required to have at least a Year 10 level of numeracy, literacy and communication skills and be able to read and write in English.

Pinnacle Safety and Training supplies all required learning materials and safety equipment for this course.

Recognition of Prior Learning 

Pinnacle Safety and Training does not offer Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for this course. Due to the duration and cost of this short course, RPL assessment would have limited value to participants. 

Credit Transfer 

Pinnacle Safety and Training offers Credit Transfers for this training product. A Credit Transfer is granted where the previously attained unit of competency has been achieved. After enrolment, participants are eligible to submit a Credit Transfer application. 

It is important to note that while the unit of competency is eligible for Credit Transfer, the participant will receive a Statement of Attainment without the specific Height Safety Supervisor achievement listed. This is due to the course being delivered in a contextualised format with specific methodologies, and course completion through attendance is required to achieve the intended learning outcomes.

All training and assessment requirements are completed within the course duration. Participants are not required to undertake any additional study or assessment outside of the scheduled course time.

The standard Work at Heights course (RIIWHS204E) provides essential skills and knowledge for safely performing tasks at height, focusing on hazard identification, risk control, and the use of fall protection equipment. However, it does not fully prepare participants for supervisory responsibilities or emergency rescue.

In contrast, the Work at Heights Supervisor course goes further by meeting the requirements outlined in Australian Standard AS1891.4. It includes additional training on supervising entry-level workers, performing harness-based work unsupervised, and participating in first-response rescue operations. This course equips supervisors with advanced skills to oversee safe work practices at height and manage rescue procedures, making it ideal for those responsible for overseeing teams working at height.

Under WHS legislation introduced in January 2012, any workplace using fall-arrest systems must have a rescue procedure in place, and that procedure must be tested for effectiveness. The Work at Heights – Supervisor course goes beyond basic height safety by equipping participants with the skills to plan, test, and implement effective rescue procedures.

Participants will learn how to develop and apply a rescue plan for responding to a suspended casualty, using practical, hands-on techniques to raise or lower the individual to safety. The course includes specialist rescue operations using industry-recognised equipment such as Gotcha Kits and Controlled Rate Descent (CRD) devices, ensuring supervisors are confident and capable in emergency scenarios.
