Height Safety Equipment Inspection

Students who are deemed competent will receive a Statement of Attainment recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework. This certification is nationally recognised. The Statement is issued by Pinnacle Safety and Training (RTO 40496).

Assessment for this course includes both theory and practical components. All assessment tasks and trainer feedback is submitted through our online learning management system.

Assessment for this course includes both a theory component to assess knowledge of inspection standards and a practical component to demonstrate inspection and maintenance skills.

To complete the practical assessment, participants are required to provide video evidence of themselves inspecting and maintaining a harness. Please refer to the Resource Requirements for further information.

This nationally accredited Height Safety Equipment Inspection course is designed for individuals responsible for wearing or inspecting fall protection gear. It is ideal for those in trades and construction-related roles such as electricians, roofers, scaffolders, riggers, maintenance workers, and site supervisors, as well as safety personnel and others working in environments where fall protection equipment is used. This course provides the knowledge and practical skills needed to ensure equipment is safe, compliant, and fit for use.

Prerequisite/s

 It is strongly recommended that participants hold a current Working at Heights qualification prior to undertaking this training. 

Age requirements

Participants must be at least 15 years of age. Participants under the age of 18 must have consent from a parent or legal guardian to enrol and participate in this course. Consent will be obtained during the enrolment process, and a signed consent form must be submitted prior to the start of training. Refer to our FAQ for more information.

Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital skills (LLND)

 Participants are required to have at least a Year 10 level of numeracy, literacy and communication skills and be able to read and write in English. This course requires a moderate level of computer literacy to navigate the online learning system and complete required activities.

To complete this course, participants require:

• A desktop or laptop computer, with:
  • Internet browser (Chrome recommended)
  • Reliable internet connection
  • Ability to play sound
  • Video recording equipment, such as a smartphone or webcam
  • PDF reader
  • Office Suite applications (Microsoft Office recommended)

Participants must have access to a suitable harness to conduct the equipment inspection practical assessment

Recognition of Prior Learning

Pinnacle Safety and Training does not offer Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for this course. Due to the duration and cost of this short course, RPL assessment would have limited value to participants.

Credit Transfer

Pinnacle Safety and Training offers Credit Transfers for this training product. A Credit Transfer is granted where the previously attained unit of competency has been achieved. After enrolment, participants are eligible to submit a Credit Transfer application.

This course is delivered online and is entirely self-paced, allowing you to complete the content in your own time and at your convenience, within the 3-month enrolment period.Participants need to ensure that they allow sufficient time in a quiet, focused study environment to fully absorb the content and complete the assessment tasks.

The course focuses on height safety equipment, including:

• Harness
• Lanyards (single and twin tail)
• Type 1, 2 and 3 fall arrest devices
• Slings
• Connectors (carabiners, snap hooks, scaff hooks, mallions)
• Helmets
• Rope
• Anchors (temporary)

You’ll also learn to identify acceptable and unacceptable wear on both material and metal components, with principles that can be applied to other height safety gear not listed.

No. The term “Test and Tag” relates to electrical equipment. In this course, you will learn the skills to inspect and tag height safety equipment.

No. Some manufacturers offer training courses to certify individuals to conduct testing, inspection and maintenance on certain pieces of proprietary equipment. If required, these courses should be taken in addition to this course.

You will receive a statement of attainment that confirms you have attained competency against the nationally recognised unit of competency PUAEQU001 - Prepare, maintain and test response equipment.

This nationally recognised course equips you with the foundational skills to become a height safety equipment inspector. This course will provide you with the training and certification required to inspect height safety equipment at a basic level.

Upon completion of the course, participants will be given access to a selection of free downloadable equipment inspection checklist templates they may modify for their own use.
