ELEVATED WORK PLATFORM (EWP) UNDER 11 METRES

After successfully completing this nationally recognised course, you will be trained and competent to operate:

• EWP (Boom Lift) under 11m
• Scissor Lift (up to any height)

Assessment for this course includes both theoretical and practical components to evaluate participants’ understanding of EWP safety procedures, risk management, inspections, and maintenance requirements. Participants will demonstrate their ability to safely operate boom and scissor lifts, perform equipment checks, apply PPE, stabilise and manoeuvre the platform, and complete shutdown and maintenance procedures in line with industry standards.

This course is suitable for beginners and experienced operators required to operate an EWP under 11 metres or scissor lift.

The unit RIIHAN301E Operate Elevating Work Platform covers the operation of a range of elevating work platforms under 11 metres. Our course will provide participants with skills and knowledge to operate elevating work platforms that are transferable to any EWP under 11 metres. The specific plant used in our training courses are boom lift (BL) and scissor lift (SL).

Age requirements
Participants must meet at least one of the following age conditions:

• Be at least 18 years of age, OR
• Be at least 16 years of age AND hold a valid driver's licence (P-plate or higher)

Participants under the age of 18 must have consent from a parent or legal guardian to enrol and participate in this course. Consent will be obtained during the enrolment process, and a signed consent form must be submitted prior to the start of training. Refer to our FAQ for more information.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills (LLN)
Participants must have at least a Year 10 level of numeracy, literacy and communication skills and be able to read and write in English.

Pinnacle Safety and Training supplies all required learning materials and safety equipment for this course.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Pinnacle Safety and Training does not offer Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for this course. Due to the duration and cost of this short course, RPL assessment would have limited value to participants.

Credit Transfer
Pinnacle Safety and Training offers Credit Transfers for this training product. A Credit Transfer is granted where the previously attained unit of competency has been achieved. After enrolment, participants are eligible to submit a Credit Transfer application.

It is important to note that while the unit/s of competency are eligible for Credit Transfer, you may be required to resit the training and assessment to meet industry or legislative requirements.

All training and assessment requirements are completed within the course duration. Participants are not required to undertake any additional study or assessment outside of the scheduled course time.

Yes. Pinnacle’s EWP Under 11 metre course includes a nationally recognised unit of competency (RIIHAN301E – Operate elevating work platform), which meets WHS requirements for operating EWPs under 11 metres in Australia. 

The EWP under 11 metre course is designed to provide the skills and knowledge required to operate elevating work platforms that do not exceed 11 metres in reach, such as scissor lifts and smaller boom lifts. This course does not require a High Risk Work Licence and is suitable for most general construction and maintenance tasks.

In contrast, the EWP over 11 metre course is for those who need to operate boom-type EWPs with a reach of more than 11 metres. This course is classified as High Risk Work (HRW) and leads to a WP class High Risk Work Licence, which is mandatory under Australian law for operating large boom lifts.

Choosing the right course depends on the type of EWP you'll be operating and the height capacity of the equipment.

No, a Yellow Card is not legally required to operate a scissor lift or elevating work platform (EWP). This is a common misconception. While some employers or sites may request a Yellow Card, what’s legally required is that you are properly trained and deemed competent to operate the equipment, which can be achieved through nationally recognised training under the VET system.

A Yellow Card is issued by an industry body, not by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) within the VET (Vocational Education and Training) system. While widely accepted on some sites, it is not a government-issued licence or a nationally recognised qualification under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).
