Asbestos Awareness

This is a non-accredited training course. Students who complete this course will receive a Certificate of Completion. This certificate is issued by Pinnacle Safety and Training (RTO 40496).

Assessment is conducted through short quizzes designed to reinforce learning and test understanding. Participants must successfully complete each quiz to demonstrate their knowledge and receive their certificate of completion.

This non-accredited Asbestos Awareness course is designed for individuals who may come across asbestos-containing materials during their work but are not involved in removing them.

Our Asbestos Awareness course is recommended for those in trades and construction-related roles such as electricians, plumbers, carpenters, painters, insulation installers, and maintenance workers as well as emergency services personnel and others working in environments where there is the potential of asbestos exposure.

For those who intend to safely and legally remove asbestos, a Class A or Class B Asbestos Removal course is available as a face to face course option at various Pinnacle Safety and Training locations around Australia.

Age Requirements

Participants must be at least 15 years of age. Participants under the age of 18 must have consent from a parent or legal guardian to enrol and participate in this course. Consent will be obtained during the enrolment process, and a signed consent form must be submitted prior to the start of training. Refer to our FAQ for more information.

Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital skills (LLND)

Participants are required to have at least a Year 10 level of numeracy, literacy and communication skills and be able to read and write in English. This course requires a basic level of computer literacy to navigate the online learning system and complete course activities.

To complete this course, participants require:

This course is delivered online and is entirely self-paced, allowing you to complete the content in your own time and at your convenience, within the 3-month enrolment period. Participants need to ensure that they allow sufficient time in a quiet, focused study environment to fully absorb the content and complete the assessment tasks.

Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral made up of tiny, heat-resistant fibres. It was once widely used in building materials thanks to its strength and fire resistance, but we now know it’s dangerous. When disturbed, asbestos can release microscopic fibres into the air, which can be inhaled and cause serious health issues. While it has been banned in Australia since 2003, asbestos-containing materials are still found in many older buildings, making awareness and safe handling essential.

Yes. Under national WHS laws, asbestos awareness training is required for anyone likely to work with or around asbestos-containing materials. Employers have a legal duty to ensure that relevant workers complete this training. This course helps fulfil that requirement.

No. This course teaches you how to identify asbestos, understand the risks, and apply safety control measures and safe procedures. It does not qualify you to remove asbestos.

To legally remove asbestos, you must complete a Class A or Class B Asbestos Removal course. These courses are available at various Pinnacle Safety and Training locations around Australia.

Asbestos becomes dangerous when it is disturbed and releases fibres into the air. This can occur during activities such as cutting, drilling, sanding, water blasting or demolition—especially when power tools are used. Once airborne, asbestos fibres can be inhaled and may cause serious diseases including mesothelioma, lung cancer and asbestosis.

Yes. There are strict regulations governing asbestos management, removal and disposal, and these requirements can vary from state to state. Employers must comply with all applicable legal obligations and ensure that workers receive appropriate training to manage asbestos safely.

To safely and legally remove asbestos in Australia, you must complete a Class A (friable) or Class B (non-friable) Asbestos Removal course with a registered training organisation such as Pinnacle Safety and Training.  These nationally recognised courses provide the practical skills, safety knowledge and certification required to work with or remove asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) in accordance with WHS regulations.
